History of FESTAC Africa

FESTAC AFRICA an event powered by Inspire Africa Connect is also known as the World’s Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture. This is an Arts and cultural festival that aims to change the mindset of the way we see ourselves as Africans and how the world sees us.

The first event was held in Dakar, 1966, and second one was a major international festival held in Lagos, Nigeria 1977, from 15 January 1977 to 12 February 1977. The month-long event celebrated African culture and showcased to the world African music, fine art, literature, drama, dance and religion. About 16,000 participants representing over 70 nations worldwide performed at the event. At the time it was held, it was the largest pan-African gathering to ever take place.

FESTAC AFRICA is designed to be an event that binds and brings Africans from all over the world together to celebrate and appreciate our identity through a series of festivities planned over seven (7) days.
